I have removed, stripped, greased the diff lock lever unit, my problem is the actual gear lever has a ball joint type that meets with the cross shaft, the plastic collar that surrounds the ball joint has perished, I have a new one but I have to separate the lever in two, there is a fat part of the lever with what looks like a bush inside it where the two join, how the fook do I separate these?
Thanks, tom

with housing upside down remove pin from bottom of lever it will pull through then

I've got the lever out, but the plastic collar won't fit over the ball joint in way it's meant to sit, so you have to do it from the top of the lever but that fat bit is in the way'

once youve got pin out and clip removed from plastic bush it will pull out of the top

I have removed the old one, just like that, but the new one can't go on the same way it has to be fitted from the top of the lever (gear knob end) but to do that I need to remove the 'fat' part of the gear lever

Jamesmartin, I don't know if this helps you understand what I mean, the collar in the middle has broken, but the new one will not go on the eye/spring end as it does not fit over the ball joint, so I have to split the lever in two and insert the other end
