Hi everyone, im in the process of replacing front shocks and turret rings on my 110.
Come to do passenger side and upon strip down discovered this

The bottom washer that locates in the bottom shock mount was rusted away allowing the shock peg to wear this interesting feature

So I need to fill this with weld o_O or cut off and replace bracket (better).

I haven't got a welder though and matey can't get one from work till Friday and I'm going away Saturday so it's a bit tight.

I've got a grinder with cutting discs, just need a welder and the know how to use it.

Is there anyone in the vicinity of walsall/Wolverhampton with a welder who could come and help me out at all?

Happy to cover fuel cost and weigh in with some beers/cash/cake :D

Thanks

As a temporary fix could you cut a metal disk to go on the top secured by the two bolts that hold the spring retainer in place and then cut a hole for the damper in the middle? Might work until you have a bit more time?

Was thinking along those lines but to be fair I don't need the landy til Saturday so I've been and got a replacement bracket and cut the old one off. If there's no-one local can help me I'll bite the bullet and ring a mobile welder :(

Cheers for the suggestion though!

Good opportunity to buy yourself one. Trust me, it won't gather dust in the corner of the garage . Also good area to practice , nice thick steel.

If it wasn't for going away next week and needing the spending money I'd have been down machine mart today :( never comes at the right time does it?

Looks good to me. Heavy enough to tackle any thickness of steel on a landy. Mig is easier for the thinnest of steel and a gas mig will be easier still , no slag to chip off. As you have already cut the bracket off, clean butting parts with grinder and bevel joints for good penetration. Plenty vids about for tips.

The missus is saying go for it so **** it I'm gonna be on YouTube all night! Cheers Mick.

Measure thickness of steel I'm welding and get similar size rods?

Any danger of tripping fuse box in my garage with it?

Pretty much, I'm no professional welder so I'm sure one will come along with better advice. If your missus is that easily persuaded , get a mig, gas./gasless. ;).

No chance, been told £100 limit  she sees the false economy of paying someone approx the same as what a welder costs. As long as that one on screwfix will do it I'm away. Just measured thickness of bracket I've got to weld on its 5mm, max thickness of that welder is 4mm

Sorry cocker ,if I'd seen this earlier you could have borrowed mine or I could have come over. I live just outside Burton about 10 minutes away from junction 11 of the M42. I've got a Clarke 151 mig

Mate if you're about tomorrow at all that'd be a god send!

Still going to invest but would feel much better about someone experienced doing it as it's pretty structural for the suspension!

PM me your address. I'm off to bed in a bit cos I'm up for work at half two, but if I'm late finishing it might have to be Thursday evening instead. What time are you home?

I'm off work all week mate so I'm easy!

If your sure you don't mind I'll send p.m now.
Really appreciate this
