Hello...can someone help me please? I have a 2007 Defender 90 which when I bought it had 4 Kumho Road Venture MT KL71 tyres on it. Great aggressive looking tyres which made the car.

Recently had to replace the back left tyre with a BFGoodrich MT Tyre as I was unable to get the Kumho anywhere in the UK without a long lead in period.

When replaced, despite being the same size of tyre, the difference in tread made the car fish tail considerably at high speeds....in an attempt to sort this I bought another back right BFG which has only made the problem worse!!

I am also running them at c35psi which might be too high for MT tyres - mainly road use at this stage.

Do I need to buy another 2 tyres for the front to balance this out or is it the BFG tyres? Car is unsafe to drive in high winds and there is a huge amount of play int he steering.

Sorry for the long message.....can anyone help?

I think your problem may lie with the vehicle rather than in the new tyres. Were the tyres you took off worn evenly? If not, something may be out with the vehicle somewhere which may have been masked by the uneven wear of the tyres compensating. With new tyres on that are even, it could be that the problem becomes more evident. Check all the suspension bolts are tight, a mate of mine had a similar problem and some of the nyloc nuts had started to work loose allowing the back axle to move a small amount. I'm sure somebody will be along shortly who actually knows what they're talking about though. :D

Ps, welcome to LZ.

My specific landy knowledge is limited compared to many on here, but I do agree with the above - new tyres shouldn't do that, and I'd bet they're not the actual problem and it lies in a bush/bearing/suspension component somewhere.

BUT: Can you swap fronts to back, or borrow a whole set of wheels from someone to try?
