Hi All
I've bought a land rover defender 90 TD5 by mistake!!... eek.
its got 150k on it, so decided the first job was to take it to a friendly hairy mechanic to get her checked over and fix the many, many fluid leaks, and diagnose the, dry low pitch noise, when lifting clutch! beyond this I will be getting my hands dirty myself to do a rolling reconditioning job.

feedback from friendly mechanic, chassis is solid.... mechanically it's been poorly looked after, .... prognosis repairable!

Large oil leaks from both main gearbox and transfer box, also jumps out of gear...., i took the plunge and decided to fit Ashcroft reconditioned units, plus new clutch.
steering box leaking... new box!
fuel pressure regulator leaking... new seal.
rocker cover gasket leaking... new seal.
rear diff input shaft seal leaking.... new seal

the plan then is to steam clean and see if there are any other leaks.

then I shall get my hands dirty and fit new springs and shocks, plus replace all suspension bushes, and strip and rebuild brakes. checking bearings and joints at each wheel.

it's gonna be a money pit, but I'm still smiling, the kids think its a cool... wife less than happy!

off to Billing Land Rover Fest tomorrow to immerse myself in everything land rover...

Eh? Welcome. You bought it by mistake? Despite this you seem to be getting well stuck into the problem's.

hi john

thanks for reply.. yeah when I say by mistake, i guess i mean, i must be mad!! I could have bought something that would be less trouble, more reliable, faster, more comfortable hehehe... but i cant remember the last time i got so excited by a vehicle..

hopefully should get it back this week from my friendly mechanic, I will then be getting my hands dirty, tackling all its other problems.

cheers

steve
