Hi, Is it possible to remove the heater matrix without removing the whole dash board, can I cut a chunk out of the side of the centre console or somthing. I'm not worried what it'll look like but I need to sort the leak out fast.... any help appreciated, cheers.

There is a way and it's been posted on a forum somewhere. It was from the inside, you can see the matrix from the fuse box area (with a torch), first the fusebox is removed to get access and the pipes have to be cut shorter but the matrix just slots-in IIRC, it took the poster only an hour to do although it's a fiddly job to do it that way.

I believe thats how the LR main dealers did it when there was problems with a iffy batch of RRc heaters were fitted back in 1990s.

I've not done one in situ, but having stripped a couple of discos and taken them out of the unit while in my garage I can say removing the pipes from the heater matrix is not easy. They are only pushed on with an 0 ring but need a good pull and wriggle to remove and this makes them more difficult to do with no room and not a lot of pipe movement.

I removed the matrix without removing the dash. I removed the support from under the dash and took all the screws out and then put a small jack under the dash to hold it out of the way and pulled the matrix out it was a pain in the ass but I learn't what not todo next time. a small engineers mirror came in handy when putting the pipes back on t
he matrix
