Its cold so the heater has died!

Any ideas

Thankyou will checkout the thermostat, i owe you a candle! or a match at least have been driving round with the forge alight but the carbon dioxide plays havoc with my eyesite! :D

Flushed my heater matrix and engine, changed my radiator and all hoses, new thermostat, all done two years ago and heater on my TD5 is nice and toasty. Takes about 15 minutes to warm up during normal driving but if I let it idle the heating goes a bit limp.

I dont have the viscous fan fitted which may help. I wired the disused air con leccy fan when I removed the faulty (expensive to repair) air con system but I dont think it has ever come on even in the heat of Summer.

Made up a spanner to remove the viscous fan...just about to get started when i noticed the water looked a bit pale in the rad topup tank, not its normal blue anti freezed colour, this was because there was no water in the top up tank!!

I put 4 litres in and low and behold i have heat again, there is no obvious leak and it had never overheated, oil is not milky thank f**k.
so bit embarrassed really, will check water level tomorrow.
thanks all

if your sure no leaks or head gasket- by a radiator expansion cap last one cost me £3
