I was wondering how to keep myself warm whilst standing outside on the drive trying to fix this tickover problem on the v8--see my other thread on this--so I thought 'heated seats!' and promptly bought some good ones on ebay--obviously without a clue how to install them . So if anyone out there has done this job please let me have any tips!

What kit did you buy? I have bought a Waeco one for £60 from ebay and will fit this weekend. I know roughly what I'm going to do so may be able to give some pointers on wiring it up.

I'd be interested to know how you got on with putting the pads inside the seats though as that's the bit I'm not sure on!

I got a German mh60 kit from eBay
For about £60 for the two front seats. I had to use special pliers to cut the hog rings to fit the pads and could not refit the full 4rings on each seat base but had to make do with two. Seems to work OK. Now just got to find the time to do the wiring!

Sent mine back in the end. It looked like I was going to knacker the seats. I was going to lose too many hog rings to make the pads fit, my leathers are a bit different to the normal disco ones so I think perhaps they are differently set up in terms of hog rings. There were several rows I would have lost.

I guess to wire them up, you could take a permanent live from the battery (providing your kit has an inline fuse) and switched live from the cigarette lighter.

In my seats ,which I think are the xs half leather with the LR logo cloth there are only two rows of hog rings ,one of which you do not touch at all and the other is covered by a gap in the heated seat element(at least in the kit I got)
.This meant I only lost two hog rings--which I think will be ok. I have no doubt that I would have sent the kit back as well if it meant losing all the rings on even one rod!
Realising it would be sensible to wire this lot separate from the existing loom I have bitten the bullet and wired in full tow-bar electrics from the battery with appropriate fuses etc and a view to using this power source for the seats. If I was not such a wimp about working on the drive in this cold it would be done by now!
