What I have is this:

All bar one of the top strips buzz out from earth to the LHS vertical silver bar (as you look at the window from the inside).

All of the lower strips have breaks from the LHS bar to the RHS bar (where the supply comes from) - therefore no heated rear window at all.

I have searched - honest and got
2004 - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f31/rear-heater-element-20141.html
2005 - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f31/replacing-defender-heated-rear-window-glass-24447.html

Are these still true, or is there some newer magic silver amalgum stuff that I can roll on?

Or would copper tape suffice?

Or another magical solution???

Easy job if you decide to replace the glass. Pull the seal round the new glass, lay some stout string/thin cord in the channel, offer up the window from the outside, get helper on inside to pull the string and winkle the lip over the frame. A bit of a thump (not too hard) with your palm and yer done.
It's so easy even the wife operated the cord.
I didn't trust her to hold the glass.

Do like the queen mum did and have a wiper fitted on the inside i [to remove corgi breath]

OK, thats good - brillliant idea so far - but have no Corgies.

Reminder to me -get more Corgies in the act, they can juggle, they can dance, sureley as well ??

Sorry you have no corgies. One of those security mesh covers can prevent damage to elements of the screen,CHEERS.

Ah,

OK, so you are saying a previous owner did in fact have corgies that bit out the elements.

More reason that not as to why not to own Corgies.

(No disrespect ment there Ma' Am - tug at forlock - if you are reading - and I hope that Philip is getting along OK)

Ooopps
