Hi all,

I’ve done a bit of searching on this one and tried to have a look myself but my electrical knowledge is far worse than my mechanical skills and I have no idea where to start!

Every time I try to use the rear heated window element (button on dash) it blows the fuse. I’ve replaced the fuse twice now and have just left it blown now! I’ve disconnected the rear window element and the fuse still blows but I’m not sure of the best way to check the wiring or continuity with multi-meter so any suggestions or help/advice would be most welcome as I’m stumped.
It’s not too bad in the summer but in the winter, with 2 wet spaniels in the back, the window is pretty much permanently misted up!

Cheers

If it blows the fuse when disconnected then you have a short. Could be wiring has rubbed through somewhere. Good place to start is the grommet where the wires exit the body and enter the door.
I would suggest searching for a copy of RAVE on here for your vehicle. Will help with wiring diagrams and plug connector locations.

You don't have to check continuity cos it's deffinitely a short to earth somewhere, a suspect point can be connector C0480/0485 which can have corrosion in it, the HRW feed is through pin 18 brown/purple wire but if nothing visible there for troubleshooting you have to unpin the wire one side then see if it blows the fuse or not.... it's not recommended to turn ignition on with this connector unplugged cos it will mix up other systems so the only way is to unpin it or cut the wire, also the wire can be in other pin so the colour of it is very important... this will show if the short circuit is between this connector and fusebox or to the back... though the probem can be within the fusebox too

neglect the red arrow cos it was for other purpose and points to pin 16
