Hi all. The headlights on my defender 90 300tdi have just stopped working, however i can still get full beam, when i push the switch the dash lights come on but that is all. I've had a good look at the wiring and it all seems fine, and I dont think its an earth problem as full beam still works. Any ideas on where to look at next. Cheers

sorry forgot to mention fuses are fine. ricc, is there a way of diagnosing a worn out switch, other than the fact it wont work!!? cheers

I take it both the front and rear side lights still work?

On the grounds that more than one circuit has gone pete tong it's likely to be the switch or the dim dip relay. If you take the switch off you'll see that the metal contacts are set in plastic. If the switch is faulty you'll most likely find that one of the contacts will have got hot, melted the plastic and then sunk. The switch can become 'notchy' if this happens.
