can i buy replacement hot spots for the head i cannot see any sign of cracks anywhere else the bores feel very good no ridges around pots

found hotspots £15+vat each bearmach can anybody tell me is it nessesary to do all 4 at the same time seems sensible but its all money and any saving would be good

most wear will be on the thrust side (starter side)if there all cracked like the one in the picture then they would all need replacing, they tap out with a punch through injector hole, look carefully between the valves

is steel wool a good idea for cleaning between valves or should i use a chemical cleaner and softer material for scrubing head sorry about all these questions and thanks again for all the help

ok borrowed a valve spring compressor took valves out they dont look to bad one of the valve stem oil seals had popped of its seat got some photos but my lad is out with his girlfriend till latter hes got em on his ipod anyway got the bug now up late last night reading lots of threads and found one on piston ring renewal sounds quite simple and can be done with engine in so im thinkin maybe??? has anybody done this and were there any unxspected xtra costs apart from big end shells rings? . is it possible to do valve guides yourself how do you press new ones in mightbe to tricky me thinks.

honing bores with crank inplace i suppose you just wrap crank with rags while you run the hone inthe bore

You are going to have to wash out cylinders anyway, but important that you dont go too far down into cylinder with hone and hit the shaft. i know its stateing the obvious but the first time i used one , I drew the hone too far up the bore , resulting in breaking one stone on the lip of the block. Stupid i know.......

how did it turn out and were you useing standard pistons and new rings or all new piston and rings im still dithering what way to go i can get complete set pistons and rings for £128 quid but im worried that im throwing good money at something that might go the same way again?anybody put new pistons in there 19j if so hows it going?

have you measured how far they protrude ,youd have to watch oil squirt if going to hone it in the vehicle ,i wouldnt bother unless bores really good just leave as is ,best is to rebore and fit oversize pistons with 1 or 2 thou honed out to finished size ,valve guides tap out and supposedly tap in but are better pressed but then would need valve seats cut to suit guides

i used a steel rule across the hot spots and they are siiting level with the head surface.they feel very smooth when you run youre hand across them hopeing thats good enough the haynes doesnt help much on this hotspot replacment
