Hi all,

Tried a new hdc 1st gear switch but this did not extinguish my yellow hdc light that is on constantly - so now I'm looking to check the relay...any ideas where it is anyone?
Haynes says engine bay fuse box but on my 98 K Series 1.8 theres nowt in there except fuses - theres two boxes underneath this fuse box - would it be in one of those...been searching for ages but cannot find anything.

Thanks very much
Brack.

I had the same and changed the throttle pedal switch and it's ok know check that your brake lights work as it could be your brake light switch on the pedal

Cheers keith,

No mines an early one with no switch on the accelerator - think mine goes from the throttle position switch on the throttle body - thats the next thing to check - brakes lights are good

Thanks mate :)

wont be brake light switch on a 98 model they only have the 2 pin switch....

does your TC and ABS light go out as normal

Hi Matt,

Yes TC and ABS go out - only the yellow hdc stays on mate.

I've just read The Wombats hdc thread and it looks like I need the fault codes reading / clearing after changing the 1st gear switch ...it might still be that..I should have maybe got them read first...but thats me - arse first lol

Also I read on the net that this light will come on with a faulty relay ...so I was going to check that but cannot for the life of me pin point which one it is.

Cheers
Brack.

There are only few causes to the amber warning light on a petrol Freelander
Throttle position switch 2000 on or throttle pot for pre 2000 models.
Gear selection implausible. This means gear switchs, first or reverse.
Clutch pedal switch.

Been studying haynes diagrams and found that there is no HDC relay for pre 2001Freelanders - Wish they had said that on their Relay Location page

Hope this stops others from wasting time looking for it.

the HDC i think runs from the ABS ECU under the drivers seat... but dnt worry mate i have one to try if needs be this weekend lol

Thanks Nodge:)

I didnt know about the clutch pedal switch - I can see a fuse for it mentioned for TD4's in haynes - but no mention of it for my 98 petrol.

Cheers Matt ...I will fit another throttle position sensor, I have a new 1st gear switch and relatively new reverse light switch fitted so hopefully when I come to you it will be just a case of clearing faults to get the light off...unless as you say its the ABS ECU and if you have one of those to try thats brill:)

Have you checked that the new First gear switch is actually operating correctly? It's worth testing it with a light or meter. Sometimes they need to be spaced out with a washer or two or it stays connected all the time.

Well I got the codes read at my local garage (thanks again Matt for the offer) - there were no codes showing at all... BUT he did reset the codes even though there were none ...result.... Yellow HDC has gone out :) :) HDC works for the first time I've owned it...chuffed.

ABS light now works as it should too ...it does the blink now before going out at 5 mph

Thanks everyone :)

glad you got it working....BUT

i dnt think its right if there was no codes the light would'nt be on as it would think its all working... see how you go hopefully the light wont come back on

is yours the early one by any chance with the orange indicators at the front
