OK, I know this may just be age related, but all odd.
Early Feb, the (aftermarket) radio died, 1st thing to check was the fuse, this was found to have blown, put another in, that blew straight away, next thing was to remove the radio and disconnect plug to check if the radio was faulty, new fuse blew as soon as ign turned on. Presumed the switched live wire had rubbed through and shorting to earth, refitted plug and radio, left fuse bay empty, with the intention of later running a fused wire from fuse box to radio at a later time.
A few weeks ago, picked the kids up from school, windows opened as the kids normally do, but when I got home, none wanted to work, straight to fuse box, pulled fuse out, which was OK, so put back in and windows then worked and have been OK since.
Last night, I went beach fishing packed up ready to come home, turned the headlights on, but no dash lights, checked rear lights and no tail lights, headlights OK, however, since fitting 1 of those headlamp relay kits to improve headlight output, as soon as the switch is turned to side lights, the headlights come on (never noticed prior to fitting), so spend some time checking fuses in the interior fuse box and engine bay all OK. decided to drive home anyway and if stopped, I'd say I thought it was just the dash lights that failed, luckily no traffic at 3am.
Took the cowling off and pulled the plug out the light/indicator switch, to find the Green/Brown live wire pin had burnt, but still working, identified the pins in the plug with the Haynes comic and putting a jumper wire between Green/Brown and Red pin, my side lights came on (as did my headlights), going through the pins and trying to check continuity on the switch, I put it back together and side lights started coming back on again. Funny thing was, when I put F2 back in, I accidentally put it in F3 position and the radio came on and has so far, been fine, so I put another spare in F2.
I did unplug the headlamp relay kit and put the original plugs back on the headlamps and tried the switch, but headlamps were still coming on with sidelights, so not entirely sure what was going on, as didn't matter is connected to switch or not, unless coincidentally shorted together in the harness somewhere.
I'm tempted to still replace the light/indicator switch, I may have to have a browse of EBay for the plug (probably cut off a scrapper) and may still run a separate fused wire from fuse box to radio. I may just leave the windows alone for now.
