Having major problems with headlights and spots.

hi all,
i'm new to this whole post the problem on the internet so appologies if i make it difficult to understand.
i recently bought a light bar with 4 ring spots and 2 wipac safari spots which are on the A bar on the front for my 1986 defender. i wired them all up correctly (to the high beam)with all the relays and what not. it looked mint.
went back the next day and on the first flash they worked fine. i put the lights on sidelights worked, main beam didn't but full beam and all the spots did. so i tried again with the light switch same again but spots on the roof bar didn't work. tried again lost the wipacs and again....only have side lights and left full beam???
i replaced: headlights with halogen conversion
light switch
indicater stalk
checked all fuses they appear fine. i'm really stuck for ideas?? any help i would be really greatful

how many wattages are being eaten by those lights and wot size fusible links do you have fitted?

too much wattage i would guess for the light stalk too handle..

i have 4 wipacs on my abar with 2 relays and 55w bulbs in em theese are wired to main beam

i have 4 lights on roof bar with 55w bulbs in em wired via 2 relays and a seperate switch on the dash..
i think you have too much on one switched source..how many relays u runnin? should be a minimum of 3

the wipacs are 100w and the ring are 55w i think the relays are 30 amps and the inline fuse is 30amps

way too much for the light stalk..how many relays?
so u have in total 530w of lights inc headlights on the light stalk?

where's it say he's running them all through the stalk switch ? - he could have 1000s of watts switched via the stalk using the right relays

there's 2 relays supplied by an inline fuse from the battery i wired them through the bonnet to the high beam just behind the headlight. (where the previous ring lights were on the A bar)

he says hes wired them to main beam
would you wire 530w inc headlights to main beam?

are they properly earthed?

only with a relay, unless you wanna be able to make toast on the dash

no he dint - he said "i wired them all up correctly (to the high beam)with all the relays and what not" - it dont say where the power is coming from - the headlights could be switching the relays, could it not?

hes only runnin 2 relays for all six lights

he may well have, but that doesn't imply theres 45 amps running through the stalk switch does it

i would have used a minimum of 3 relays

yes i think so. the wipacs are earthed on the wingtop edge and the light bar is earthed next to the fuse box inside the cab.

it has to be one of the relays, might be a good plan to fit some rated a lot higher than 30A

you may well have accidentally routed the full load through contacts only rated as specified and they've melted

ok thanks guys you've really helped me out i'll use 3 relays. what amp should i use and will i need to replace the light stalk again??

this is true just been to look at the job, instead of using 3 relays would be it possibly to use a 60 amp relay for the roof bar?(4 lights wired together) will that be the end of the problem or do i need to replace both relays and the light stalk?
