Harley Davidsons now used for green laning

thought it was quite a considered article - as long as you have people doing what's mentioned below there'll always be people thinking that way

"Last Saturday morning, the Grindleford Gallop – a charity event organised by local schools – came down Chertpit Lane. Six hundred walkers and runners made their way south. Four motorcyclists rode north against the tide. "

Aye, having re-read the article without my son shouting in my ear I agree with you, that sort of behaviour won't help at all, being a keen walker myself I've only ever had a couple of mountain biker's ride stupidly past my kids & I. Any 4x4 & motorcycle owner's have always stopped to allow us passage, it's a shame some don't realise the damage they're causing.

and now after that one single event there's another 600 extra people who will agree with the author, simply due to the 4 bike riders ignorance/arrogance

altho i don't disagree in whole with the sentiment of the article the fact that about half way through the term 4x4 ceases to be used and 'Land rovers' have seemingly become the only 4x4's to use these lanes is a bit annoying:rolleyes:

Also grates that it's ok for the govt and local council to turn any bit of greenbelt land into a big housing estate, yet it's 4x4 drivers who are blamed for ruining the countryside:doh:

"Off-roaders destroy every green road on which they drive"
Well thats a sweeping statement.Completely false but we wont let get in the way of a good rant.

"Last Saturday morning, the Grindleford Gallop – a charity event organised by local schools – came down Chertpit Lane. Six hundred walkers and runners made their way south. Four motorcyclists rode north against the tide. It is not hard to imagine what would have happened on a road, in parts only 2m wide, if the news had got abroad that it was open to every vehicle that wanted to race."
Spo the walkers and runners had more right than the bikers then? No.They went agaisnt "the tide".Well if its a "tide" 4 lickle bikes wont make any difference.Do you think the bikers were aware of the event?MAybe maybe not. They went the opposite way to the walkers. Is that a crime? Not without a tro it aint. Not hard to imagine what would happen.., well im imagining the bikers going "**** me thats a lot of bods. They'll take ages to pass.Lets pull over here eat our lunch and continue on our way once they have gone, could do with a brew anyway."
And the last bit "open to every vehicle that wanted to race" who races?Certainly not me, have done down lakeside so should we shut that?Never on a lane though.Tend to go slowly or I break summit/Get home to missus earlier.
OOOH and this VVV is the army harleys, would be great for laning, too heavy to jump though.

I'd love to see the result of 2 landys attempting to race in a 2m wide lane. I'm sure there would be plenty of spare room for overtaking.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

As I wasn't there I obviously don't know the full facts on the motorbike incident but if the lane was 2m wide and the 4 motorcyclists didn't spot the 600 runners til the last minute there would have been no way they could have turned around without causing further chaos. I'm pretty damn sure the walkers and runners wouldn't have been bunched up so that the motorbikes only had to wait for say 5 mins. The reality is probably more like 2 hours.

We restrict ourselves to small groups on BOATS. It's a shame the same can't be said for the walkers and runners.:p

Me thinks they have a slightly biased view on things.

The article shows nothing more than a crass lack of understanding and a feeble attempt to jump on the "all 4x4 drivers are evil" bandwagon.

it doesnt matter what we do, as long as a enjin is in our cars we will loose to these narrow minded plonkers. the trouble is that they see lanes as though they own it and dont want noise ruining the walk
