I removed my center console and had to take the cable off the handbrake and when I refitted the cable to the handbrake it no longer works rite as in I pull the lever up and just falls back down.when I push the botton it just stays in.
I then toke it apart again to see what I have missed but just can't figger out what I have done wrong.
Any ideas as at the moment i'm just putting a pair of mo grips under the handle to keep the handbrake on.

200 tdi ? ,presumably you pulled lever right back when cable was removed ,this can bend pawl rod which runs from button to pawl ,usually if you remove pin and bend lever back you can straighten rod from underside of lever till it operates again without button sticking ,or pawk has inverted and no longer catches ,happens everytime nearly

It's a 300tdi but thanks as this sounds like what I have done.
Will have to have a look and try it.

May I say been there done that --and a couple of times

if you raised the lever all the way the ratchet mechanism has turned round from the ratchet plate

loosen the centre console
lift it up a bit and look under the hand brake lever (theres a area where it widens before going into console

there's a little metal tab on the end of the rod with button, turn it down

then replace console whilst pushing the button in to stop it happening

Sorry explanation is a damn sight more difficult than doing it, takes 5 mins max
just have a look its almost a OH moment
