Anybody else experienced problems with Halford Halogen Bulbs for the Disco 2? I bought 2 costing me 24.95 each. (Yes I'm mental) One of them blew after a couple of weeks so I took it back but they wouldn't exchange it as I had lost the receipt. I bought another (did I say I was mental?) Guess who turned up a week later with the new receipt and the old bulb? The git checked the serial number on the bulb to check it was his batch!! Pity the robin' bassa never did that the first time I returned it!!)

Luckly for me I can use H4 bulbs at £14.99 they use to be £12.99 and is BOGOF. Any Halogen bulb can blow very quickly if the is a finger print is left on the glass or the fitting connector is faulty.
And as far as Halfords go they are ok and the bulbs are brilliant.

Am a bit .
Firstly how, without a receiPt, is the guy supposed to know how old the bulb is? yu could have had it 3 years?
Secondly he was, most likely, not checking a batch number, but just that it was a halfrauds bulb, and Not someone elses.
Turdlee, the guy wot sold it/ checked it dont set the price. He is just shop floor cannon fodder.

You may have a genuine faulty bulb but, beleve me, i know how many scamming bastids change bulbs and then bring the old ones back saying "they dont work".

Hi rammyman,

As stated previously...do not ever use Halfrauds!

I had a bulb issue a couple of months ago with admittedly rear brake lights/trailer and was defeated, I (seeing that you live in Coatbridge) had it sorted by GEMM in Larbert. The bulbs as supplied were a fraction of the cost as offered by Halfrauds.

FYI - my Disco Td5 is taken care of by these guys at GEMM and cannot recommend them high enough. Sorry about the advertising but have suffered franchise dealerships before:mad:

£25 each try using your local car spares they should be no more than 6 quid.

Halfords can be great or grim, it is a bit of a 'try it and see' thing when problems arise. My battery failed after 10 months and of course the receipt went into hiding, but when I took it back to Halfords, they tested the battery, confirmed it was duff and then gave me a new one, no hassle. Brilliant. I then bought some glow plugs for a Citroen I had at the time, fitted them which was a damn nighmare, it took me 2 weekends to achieve completion, and after about a month the car would not start. Eventually, after getting very p1ssed off, I took it to my local garage to find out what the problem was. They immediately told me that 2 of the glow plugs were not working, and a third was weak. they replaced the lot with Citroen spec plugs and she was as good as new. I had the receipt this time and took them back to Halfords who supposedly sent the glow plugs off for testing, I had to keep chasing them to find out what was happening and they eventually came back stating that they may have been fitted to the wrong vehicle. This was proven not to be the fact as the part number when checked confirmed they were for a Citroen ZX. They then said that they may have been fitted wrongly ?? How ?? they are similar to fitting a spark plug except that the power lead is daisy chained and you could not connect up wrong due to there being no slack in the cable. It went on for about 4 months and I eventually gave up. So, they are OK for batteries, f***ing useless for glow plugs.....and with the sound of it, bulbs, expensive bulbs at that.

Its like any chain of shops - yu get good and bad service. Service is un-personalised, as the person selling doesnt have a vested interest in the outcome.
It should also be remembered that the retail industry is appallingly paid. Most staff are on minimum wage. This is not condusive to getting a supplier giving good service. You get what yu pay for.

I've just read this thread and I still can't quite grasp why anyone would pay £20 odd for a bulb - don't care if it's made out of gold, with silver tassles and titanium contacts.

I buy my Xenon bulbs from a bloke in Hong Kong and have been doing so for 4 yrs. Excellent bulbs, various wattages and always cheap and speedy delivery.

I've just bought another set for the latest Disco and they cost £0.99, plus £2.49 p&p, so £3.50 for two Xenon bulbs, delivered to my home.

I think the problem of cost arises when urgency is the key driver, if you have a bulb go out and do not have a spare, and had already planned to perhaps upgrade, you tend to take the easy route.....your local motor shop. Personally, I would not buy a fuse from them and it is not because of the staff, but because they sell cheap products expensively, and of course you now have Fleabay which has opened up the world to buying, and of course fraud, but at least with paypal you are covered. I bought a HID conversion kit for my sports car which usually costs around £140 these days in the UK, from a Japanese Ebayer for £32 plus £36 postage. It reached me in 4 days and has been excellent, it is over 2 years old now. The main thing is to plan ahead and shop around and don't get forced into to buying something through a failure panic.
