hey all,

ive got a bit of a problem with my series 3 diesel, ive been snowed in for 10 days and after loads of work, stripping down starter ect and unceasing clutches, i managed to get the old landy to run, i got to the end of the track and it was just spinning and not moving, i managed to get it back home an realised that the half shafts for the front are turning but the wheels arent getting any drive, i presume theres either splines on the hubs or the half shafts which have worn down?

any info would be great, i have a m8 with one being scrapped so i can get what i need, if he can get his landy up here int he snow ..lol

cheers

i'm actually thinking of welding the diff and getting freewheeling hubs then when i off road it will allready have diff lock and freewheel for normal road driving :)

Not a good idea.

And free wheelin hubs can cause wear on your prop shaft splines real bad, cause the shaft sits vibrating in one spot.

ahh right, back to the drawing board then ..lol

Not necessarily, freewheelin hubs are OK, but you have to be on topof greasing the propshaft spline frequently to minamise wear, it will still wear though. The saving on fuel may out way the cost of replacing prop shaft spline and yoke over time.
