i'm not aware that driving without tax invalidates your insurance, though I can see it may if you don't have a current MOT

Yes it does. Most policies state that car must be fully legal for insurance to be valid.

Good news. It did all sound a bit dodgy at first but all worked out fine, if you've got an MOT now as well there can't be that much wrong with it. Looks in good nick too.

That's what I was thinking, there's always bound to be a few issues on a vehicle of that age and that complexity but by and large, jobs a good'un.
