Right i have just brought a 300TDI and i want to clean the engine/bay up etc its covered in mud and all sorts.

SOOO when i had my Defender 2.5na i put a tub of Gunk on it all and then just washed it all off let it dry a little then starter her up happy days.

I now have a 300tdi, it might sound stupid but i dont want to gunk the whole thing was it off then find i got water where i shouldnt have!

Any tips guys or recommendations?

Thanks

just jetwash it the same, i jetwash my modern golf (2013) under the bonnet and its fine.

just dont linger to long with the jetwash on any electrical connections etc

Get it down your local truck service place and get an MOT clean this does engine body chassis and running gear for about £20 and the responsibility is all theirs ;)

I get mine up to temp, switch off then jet wash it. The heat from the engine acts like a steam cleaner and gets most of the crud off :) Be warned you will get covered head to foot in crap though lol.

i frequently simply leave mine running lift the bonnet and get stuck in, at home i just use cold water no detergent from a decent pressure washer and if i do it at the local pay and spray jetwash i use the first setting i.e the one with hot water and detergent then switch to cold rinse when i have done.

It makes it a little difficult to get to the back of the rad though so i usually do that when the engine is off, the 300 is a fairly simple beast just dont focus on connections and fuse boxes etc and all should be well.

Gunk is fine good stuff brush it in well with a brush first liquid form is better and cheaper than spray type

Wash of as best you can being Carefull of your alternator starter motor and away you go with your gleaming engine for a month before it all returns :D unless you willing to fix all those weeps too :p

love my jet wash, so dose my disco..
tried 5 litres of TFR (traffic film remover) at £6 a go,
borrowed the mrs empty trigger bottle of summit (was empty when I took the trigger bit of and upturned it)
mix TFR 50/50 yes thats strong enough,
and get an aching finger spraying all your durdy bits.
dont get the spray soloution in your eyes as it stings like feck (so it must be good)
it smells like the stuff we had for cleaning hard surfaces in the old firm, and its a bit corrosive on ally, but jet wash away,
when dried, I always give the top end ally bits a blast with WD40 or sillicone spray - makes it sparkle.
I prefurr this to gungy gunk, as it dont stink, nor leaves the grease on the floor,
where as TFR just washes all the muck away with a hose on my new concreted driveway.

job done
