grinding noise on over run and taking up power def 90

Hi there 1986 2.5 n/a
got the dreaded grinding rattling noise when off power and taking it up or coasting along down hill. Does it in all gears, even in neutral. Sounds under the vehicle mid to front area. sounds like somthing is wound up around the prop and Somone is grinding a lump of metal when going along. Only once warned up after 5 mins drive. I've checked,
Exhaust,
Brakes,
Ujs and props,
Transfer box,
Wheel bearings,
Diffs,
Rear A frame,
Handbrake drum,
Shocks & springs,
Clutch is fine
Anything else I should check and any more advice please? How would i know if it gearbox? thanks all.

take front prop of and try it in diff lock then the rear then try it then let us know results

Ok thanks James. Will do it during day light! What would it be if it still made the noise with/without front/back or what should i be expecting?

depends on what you find but obviously rules out that prop ,and diff ,if neither do anything perhaps t/box

I put my money on a UJ. Probably front nearest gearbox

Mine does this - I think it's the transfer box though

Mine did thIs a while back. Was the front prop UJ nearest the diff.
