Anyone know where i can buy a Greaseable Drop arm ball joint ?

OR

Anyone figured out a way to stop the stupid cover coming off the ball joint as the "clamps" provided clearly aren't man enough ?

many thanks in advance

Thin cable tie does the trick for holding the boot on. As for greasing you could drill and tap the disc for a grease nipple, make sure you grind it flat with the inside of the disc so it doesn't foul the ball cup.
To be honest if you pack it full of grease top and bottom there's no need for a grease nipple.

Not really, the grease makes it hard to assemble the joint for a start, plus you cannot 100% fill the joint and gaiter.Any gaps and water will soon have its way...
The answer is to drill and tap the cap to fit a grease nipple. You then need to very carefully grind a pair of narrow, shallow spiral grooves around the ball section of the pin. After this polish it to remove any sharp edges, clean it well. Now you can assemble the joint dry - which is VERY easy with a pair of C type vise clamps.Fit the gaiter and the drag link, then CAREFULLY grease the joint until grease just starts to ease out.Too much and it will blow the gaiter straight off.Carefull greasing at annual service and the joint will last years, only farmers chasing through long grass/wheat etc - which will drag the gaiter off have managed to wreck them after this mod.
If you don't do the two grooves the grease will not pass the ball and just remains locked in the bottom, nowhere near getting up to the top where the water comes in.

when you say swan neck are you referring to the drop arm ?

whats the difference in a disco one ?

and the track rod ends are fine it just specifically the drop arm ball joint.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

yes the drop arm ,later discos use a drag link with 2 ball track rod ends and drop arm only has the hole ,so easier to change when needed ,but disco drag link doesnt come with provision to attache steering damper so you need to buy or make a fitting to

sorry swan neck is the term most use to differentiate between the types.... yes drop arm

a disco arm uses track rod ends , if you look at my hd arms they have 4 greaseable track rod ends not 3 like a defender... quite a common mod on defenders, mine also has a damper bracket that came with them .. will take a pic when all fitted
