Got pulled over this evening...

On Stone St near Canterbury in Kent, on my way home from an evening at a friend's house. I drove past a police car going in the opposite direction, then five minutes later was pulled over by two of them.

They just wanted to make sure the Land Rover wasn't stolen. They were very polite and just checked my license against the database.

So if you're in Kent, two things to note;

1. The police are pro actively trying to stop Defender thefts.
2. There's enough Defenders being stolen to cause them to pull people over just to make sure!

Yes, I was pulled over recently because a red Defender was stolen locally (mine is orange), I had just gone through one of them Anpr mobile vans and it was an un marked BMW that chased and stopped me. He said my rear plate flagged up as a 'concern' but didn't know why, after a discussion we decided it was my light guard upsetting the camera so decided to investigate.
I was quite pleased at their actions and told them so.
I also make a cup of tea for the guy who parks the speed camera van outside my house, 30mph limit outside a school.
His record is 83mph...

As a copper he should know better and stick to the speed limits by schools!!!
I'm more than happy to be stopped on occasion if it means that thieving scrotes get caught more often, if you keep your vehicle in reasonable condition (and legal) then there is nothing to be worried about apart from an extra few minutes on your journey time.

The only time I got a bit narked was when vosa pulled me in a brand new vw transporter sign written van to dip my tank for Red

It's nice to now they're at least trying.

Several forces were running a 'stop me after 11pm' type schemes but don't know if they still are.

Never been stopped in Dorset/Somerset, however occasionally get them sit behind me for a bit and they do pay extra attention to old 4x4s vehicles, especially Land Rovers. Don't have an issue with it although I have found it a bit intimidating when you're in the middle of nowhere on a quiet road and have someone following you after they have caught you up pretty quickly.

I had a copper run up my driveway with pepper spray at the ready.
I was fitting my pedal lock and he saw my head under the dash and thought I was trying to hot wire it. I couldn't thank him enough.

Yeah ive been pulled at least 10 times in mine but every time I have thanked them as the next time it mite not be me at the wheel.

Yeah, I was definitely thankful for it, I think it's great. I think I was stopped for a couple of minutes max, and what's that out of my day to know they're keeping a look out?

That is great to know - wonder if it's a very regional thing 'tho.

I have been stopped twice to ascertain ownership but remember if you feel unhappy at the location where you have been stopped, especially at night you have the right to ask the Police Officer to proceed to the nearest Police Station and for you to follow him there.

Yeah I'm aware I have the right to proceed to the nearest place I feel safe to stop, but thought you only had to acknowledge that you have seen them not actually talk to them?????

Not really anywhere safe to pull over in the middle of nowhere though, would have had to drive another 15 miles or do a U turn.

The first time they were paying a fair amount of attention to me they performed a very weird overtaking manoueuvre. Someone on another site said that it's an advanced method but they basically pulled halfway out and started tailgating me for a while. Still certain they were trying to provoke me into doing something silly so they could pull me over. Learnt the next weekend that a couple of Defenders had been stolen locally to where I live in the last week.

I had my Landy seized by Merseyside Police just as I came out of B&Q. They claimed it may have been stolen. Two weeks later I get a bill for £150 from the towing company but I can come and get my vehicle back as, surprise, surprise, it's not stolen. Inside I find the carpet ripped and the door card on the drivers door with broken clips.....yeah, great service from Merseyside Plod.

I guess just be thankful that you were not in America and an afro-american man, may have been fatal.

A mate of mine who was a self employed joiner and had a small white van, was pulled and breathalysed 34 times late at night on his way home in a two year period. Most he ever drank when he came to my local club for a game of snooker was a couple of pints of shandy.

Locally you get stopped after 11pm .... spate of thefts

Does he have problems staying in lane or something? I've always assumed that they can only breath test if you have a crash, drive crap, stink of it?

Lad died about two years ago. He lived in Fulwood area of Preston in a rather stuck up area. That's what happened to him, he then moved to Bamber Bridge and did not get stopped once in five years.

Its often funny how many of these folk who start screaming 'civil rights' and 'find some real criminals' are the ones up in arms when they have property stolen asking why arent the police doing more

Go figure ...

I have never been stopped in my area of Cheshire though.
