Avoid dealers if possible, they operate to make a profit.
And make sure you have done plenty of mileage in a Landrover before buying one, they are not to everyone's taste.

Thought now was the time as I don’t need a family car as much now and could do with something to fill my time and learn a bit more on mechanics rather than just the basic servicing stuff. There are lots around. Buy on condition and not age. If you want to buy from a dealer, get a copy of one of the LR magazines and look who advertises there. Unfortunately, there are quite a few companies that are less than honest. A quick search of the forum here will give you an idea about these...

Check all serial and chassis numbers as they are easily stolen. Thoroughly check the chassis and bulkhead for rust. When you get one, invest in lots of security measures too, as you don’t want to lose it to thieves...

A disco 2 makes a good alternative. Much more affordable, less likely to get nicked and more comfortable.
