Got miself a garridge to do some Disco stripping (No! - not Tufftee, ffs :mad:) but it is a mile away from my house with no lecky.
Was going to rent a genny to power some cutting tools, but its about £40 a w/e to hire one.
I have seen an new 850W one for £84, which dont sound too bad as a comparison - its a Pro User G850. I know i wont be able to weld!!! with it, but I can use drills, grinders, cutting equipment ok with that and it has a running time of about 5.8 hours on 4litres of fool. Mite even be able to rig up a light.....

too small.
turn on a 500W tool and it'll slow down and the voltage will drop off.

I've got a 3.2kW genny and that's just about OK with my 1000W SDS drill.

I reckon you need a genny rated at least 3x the power of what you intend to use.
 
I got one for sale if you want? I can get the specs tomorrow, can only remember that it's four stroke and I pinched it off a part time pikey.. Mate's used it on a fishing trip recently and it's fine and VGC. Very low hours. It's in Swinedon which ain't far from the 'Stoke..
 
ive got an old diesel petter 3kw job, it runs the 2kw 9 inch angle grinder and leccy chainsaw .... does need the ramps and winch to get it in the trailer though.
id consider an old truck battery and solar panel with 12 volt lighting
 
3kW is about 14 amps @ 220V.....

Small genny fine for resistive loads, like a heater or standard light bulbs, but are bollox for most other stuff.

Consider that start up loads as well: some of the small gennys don't throttle up quick enough and will bog down when you flick the on switch of the appliance.

I use a 3.5kW continuous rated (peak 5.0kW) to run a 2.7kW tea urn and it still bogs down when I turn it on.
 
Cool! Evenings and weekends are good, but I move around a lot at weekends so best to check first. This weekend I should be at my garage most of the time so should be good.
 
I've got a 6.9kva electric start gen. used to use it when i was mobile mech, could use that for welding with my old 130a mig. also runs my house when we have power cuts:D
 
can you get one of the yellow 240/110 site transformers and wire it in to give 240 volts?
ive never tried it but dont see why it shouldnt work....
all youd need to do is swop the 240 volt plug on the transformer for a 240 socket and use a bit of yellow 110 cable with a plug at one end to fit the 110 socket on the genny and wire the other end to the back of the 110 socket on the transformer..... then stand back and fire it up:)
