my gears are very hard to get into gear no grinding just very very stiff usually when i have been driving for more than 30 mins
gear box oil is full
gear stick and linkage all good
no leak in clutch

and slave cylinder looks ok and bracket

any other ideas??? thanks

although your master cylinder looks ok it maybe on its way out my wife had this with her 1800 petrol mine a td4 auto so no probs I changer the master cylinder and also the plate because it had a crack in it and i also put some grease on the linkage and now all is well good luck

hi thanks for reply how do you know that its on its way out???
i have had my partner press the clutch while i was under the freelander and it looks like its working ok??

not sure on the clutch as i have only had it for 1 month, i dont think it has a had a clutch recently??? should i buy a new gear box??

Had the same issue, changed slave and master and drives well now. In saying that mine looked ok too but better than changing clutch and so much cheaper to be honest and worth trying first

i had same problem, was told to basically pump the clutch about 15 times before you go out and if changing gear seems easier then definately clutch and master slave cylinder, did the test, was exactly this and now all working fine.

master cylinder is connected to pedal signs of poor master are splashing in reservoir when pedal pumped ,black deposit in bottom of reservoir or dampness around where rod enters cylinder, there are 3 things that could be wrong worn baulk rings in gear box, poor clutch cover not clearing properly causing drag ,or poor hydraulic system,,gearbox oil change can help ,hydraulic system is best replaced as if has air in will come back ,and where id start ,clutch can only be replaced

i have noticed where you fill the hydrolics it has a rubber cap and there is a darker part on the side as if its leaking and when you take the rubber lid off the under neath of the lid is twisted??? gears work fine first thing in the morning for a while
