dont suppose the hi-low lever linkage has broken (had that on mine a while back) luckily it was in high so least i did'nt have to scrape out 2 shovels of crap from around the transfer box to find it and get it back in :p
does it feel like its connected to anything or is it just waving about like a surplus cock in a porno ?

it feels just the same as it usually did but not whatever happened the lever moves from high to low ratio now and it never used to but i dont get why it wont engage

re front diff lock:- this is a common misconception, that gets short shrift here, you'd be better having a search round the forum or reading the operators manual as to how it works

kinda given yerself the answer

i had a linkage go on mine. all you need is to get under it, find the lever and try to manually engage it into the high range position.

it sounds to me like you pushed it into neutral therefore ****ing up the linkage

what i do suggest is you stop being a tit and read lots. questions are cool, but read up first coz ffs you havent got a ****ing clue. you could have got a saxo with a land rover badge on it for all you seem to know

as said RTFM

Hahhahahahahaha, sorry i missed this one lastnight sounds like a laugh.
I wonder if
1. Deff110tdi has engaged his brain yet?

2. Has he done as sean suggested several times RTFM!

3. Whether or not he can actually read????

4. Worked out how to move the lever to high range with no diff lock

I suppose he will be on soon saying he has either rectified his problem or wrecked the diffs and transfer box

I'm proper dissapointed now. Just got up to find only 6 pages to this thread I thought it'd go all night. Mind you the op still hasn't figured it out so there's time yet.

He will no doubt be back to complain that all we done is take the **** instead of driving to Glasgow and showing him how the transfer box works

Makes you wonder how some people get through the day when they cant work a lever that goes forwards, backwards and side to side with instructions printed on the top!!

LOL, good read ...

To the OP, RTFM is very good for you, especially in this instance. Also, whereabouts are you? Someone close by might have a little timeout to show you what the gears do ... ;)

well, concidering the manual for the defender was not provided when i bought the car, i thought i'd put the question to you lot but i guess it takes a proper engineer to solve the problem, thanks anyway, case closed.
