Well, the big tank was fitted a few weeks back, some proper faffing to get the correct size retaining ring for the tank pump/sender, but it eventually all came together.
I REALLY didn't want to cut a hole in the floor, but lo and behold, when we took the LPG tanks off and removed the small petrol tank, there was a gaping wound there anyway
So, we had to compromise and make it a bit bigger as the pump on the small tank was in a slightly different place than on the big one.
I've decided to put all the photo's of the job on this thread as it males more sense, so if you've seen them before, scroll down
So this is the tank in place with the carrier having been made at a local shop to my measurements. Turned out nice:
The original bodged fitting of an oversized ring cut down and jubilee'd in place
Here's it free from bodge...Do you see the tab sticking out under the filler neck overflow inlet? WTF? I had to trim it off to see if the plastic retaining ring would fit... But it STILL didn't?? What to do? I tried to fit it on the tank, having removed the pump/sender, but STILL too tight
However, I had a plan...
I got my hacksaw and cut my red ring piece Screwed it on and it was snug...
So I replaced everything as it was, including the new seal and spun the ring down, popped on the jubilee clip, tightened it up a smidgen, spun the ring tight as, then final tightened the clip. Job done
I replaced all the clips, wires, pipes and so on, tested it and not a drip or any undue engine problems
Job done
Now to wrap it up warm and stop any smells or bits shifting, I needed to place something over it. I had an old roll out camp foam mat, so it got the chop. Pretty colour
Now to get the original parts back in would involve welding and such. Not a great idea over a plastic tank So I remembered I had fitted a skylight to my Mercedes van & still had the cut out panel No worries, measure, measure, cut, cut, screw screw... Covered and fire safe
Et voila as we say in the Hielans
Now all I need to do is use the old cut out from the floor to fill that other nasty assed hole to the left, where the seat cushion locks on. Fucking cowboys and their LPG mess
Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with the finished job.
You'll note the carpet all sliced and the seat removed. The seat removal was to make it easier to access all the bits & bobs. The carpet had already been sliced.... I found that when I lifted the seat to find the small tank retaining bolts. I was annoyed, but what could I do. Still, all sorted now. The spare wheel well LPG tank is still in place for future use. I'm planning all new pipework.... I'll take photo's when I get round to it
