Hi,

First timer on the forum.

I have a RRS 2016 3.0D Autobiography and recently purchased in August and have noticed when I go to fill up on a full tank, the maximum it fills up currently is around 76 litres which I know is 10 litres short than the official capacity of 86 litres. Any ideas what the issue would be? Possibly sensor?

When I first purchased the vehicle the fuel range on a full tank was showing around the 440 mile mark which is what it should be but now the max it goes is to 382 miles.

Thanks

Unless you run the tank dry, there will always be about 10 litres remaining. Range will be lower in cold weather.

So all normal then for a Range?

When you say run the tank dry, do you mean bring the range miles to near zero or do you mean 10 litres is always remaining as a backup when you get to zero?

Appreciate the cold temperature has an effect.

Think you will find the range is a calculation from the recent avg/long term fuel consumption. (I think)
When you first brought it maybe the previous owner drove like a grandad and now you are a be heavier on the go pedal ;)

And yes there will always be some left in the tank even when it shows empty.

How did you know?? 😂
Yes, they were a couple in their mid-late 50s and using it locally mainly, I think.

That’s useful to know, that there is still some fuel left over.

Are you saying mid-late 50s is old ;) I can still drive 9mpg in my P38 if I am feeling frisky :p.
Our L322 can vary on the "lie O meter" anything from low 9s to 11 (thats liters to 100klm your young do the conversion:p) so the heavy foot can play a huge diff.

I believe I read somewhere that the L322 will always keep enough in the tank to keep the lines and pumps full. Not sure how it can do that but it may have been a dream.

Suggest you drive like your version of a mid-late 50yr old for a month and see if it changes.

Oh and welcome to the madhouse:).

Haha no ageism from me. Mid-50 years young I meant 😜
Is it the same on the L494 as well re enough in the tank? Never heard of that before but wow what a dream! 😂
Will try to be sensible as one can be but very hard not to press the metal when the opportunity arises!

Personally wouldn't consider letting the fuel tank on any Range Rover getting down to the 0 range. My view is when at the quarter mark get some fuel in the tank :)
In winter, I never let my diesels go below half a tank, with low fuel levels, condensation can occur which leads to bacterial growth in the fuel. It was a regular problem when I was working on boat electrics.

Also wanted to ask related to fuel tank, currently on half tank and noticed this previously but every time I apply the brake, i hear a dull noise at the rear of the car, almost like a rocking noise at the rear which is where I think the fuel tank is. Noise doesn’t happen when it’s on full tank or approaching near empty.

Fuel sloshing back and forth.
