Fuel tank cleaning....

Today I decided to find out why my range wont run on petrol.I started at the carbs and worked back checking each line, the filter was full of rusty coloured sludge. The pump was worse and then i got to the tank.
I had decided to take off the fuel pump supply and drain it that way but found a drain plug on the drivers side.I removed the tank plug and let loose 60litres of what i expected to be petrol.what a mess.
Lots of flakes of black bits and summat else........?
****IN DIESEL...............

Now im not normally that stupid I have checked my fuel bills and have no recipts for diesel.I am in a point of decision as to weather to ask the local fillin station if they have had "any issues"but wonder would water behave the same and seperate? The petrol sat on the top and all the bits etc sat in the "thicker fluid".It was kinda oily and a bit mingeing.slightly yellow. It kinda looked like diesel.could it be water?
I saved skimmed petrol for my chainsaw,I have a good 20 litres of shocking ****e in a drum what should i do?can i test it with litmus paper or summat to see what it is.

Could of been in there 3 years, thing is ive been toppin up but the gague never reads full but could not get any more than £40 in?Guess my fuel gage is way out as the fuel light comes on now its empty.Put a £5 in and light just flickered out and the gague was id say half a tank shy of readin empty. It would explain why i could only get half a tank on the gague and be full.So it could of been in ye tank years:rolleyes:

cant yo just smell it? or put a match to it. if its diesel it wont blow your head of, but if its petrol.....

buy a new fuel tank, getting a rusty one clean is almost impossable unless you have it filled with them lil bead things and rolled on a machine (dont know if you can get this done with a fuel tank like you can with a diving cylinder)
but a new one would be the best option.

Have you wandered what all that sludge in your tank actually is Bob - I wander if Vivnap took a dump in there?

naaaaaaaaa i was syphoning the petrol from his tank but blew instead of sucked ! naaaaaaaaaa im talking sh*t again i didnt syphone his tank ! i was tring to nick his scrapper

My scrapper is ace and you know it..........:D

Got the fuel comeing through clean now so will keep me old tank.Turns out it was replaced just before it was popped in the barn for a couple of years.I will just stay on top of filter change as its only £2.24p:D

Urgh that don't sound nice. You could always taste it, :beer2: unpleasant I know, but whatever you do, don't swallow. LOL
Petrol does go bad and it could also have water and **** in it which is probably the cause of the gunk. Used to drain the carbs on my bikes before winter storage or else the residue turned into a jelly like mass.

Sound like you've got it sorted now though. :D

Me cousin had to buy a 4 door cos his MRS popped one out.SO cuunty it was popped in the barn cos he couldnt bring himself to sell it.He had it 12years or so.
Brought it at family wedding by chance, started talkin LR cos he used to work A well known 4x4i n suffolk. It drives sweet with a 4.0 on carbs. It has LPG with 140l tanks and cost me £500 and the plane ticket to go fetch it.It dont leak and is kin fast too.Me cousin set up a 4 speed box manual on it and put in metric brakes.
Its way superiour than me old series and as for kin deependers.......
Might go disco if it dies but as it is its well solid so you will have to put up with the jelousey ya tw@t.:fighting:
