Hi All, just a quick reality check on petrol usage. Drove to Cardiff at weekend to pick up teenager from uni. All motorway M25 / M4. The old Freelandy seems to be doing around 35mpg at steady speedo of 70 - 80 (actual 60 - 70). I'm reasnobly happy with this but interested in others experience. No idea of local mpg 25 - 30??

:)Hi

i use my td4 for work so is running loaded and i get around 35 to 40 mpg have to drive it very steady though touch like a fairy,s fart :D but joking aside a very good return and a pleasure to drive

05/Td4 HSE 5 door... despite the occasional heavy right foot (still think I'm in the 2L Octie!) my last check was 39.5mpg which pleased me no end. Mix of motorway & urban, mostly the former.

I wish Id hung out for a td4 just for this reason alone. My urban mileage is not so good but i can just live with the motorway figure. Is the td speedo out as much i.e 70 more like 63 according to sat nav? dont push much past 4000 rpm about 80 on the speedo - are you the same in the td?

All dials are fairly accurate to be fair, certainly within 1 or 2mph compared to the Navman.

I rarely push the RPM dial past the "midnight" position (I'm the wrong side of 40!) - 3,000rpm giving 65-70mph does quite nicely for me. I'm doing a similar Uni run this Saturday - Midlands to Somerset and back.

This is where I really miss the Octavia on-board computer - live mpg readings are a real boon in these post-£1-per-litre days
