Hi. I have just had a new front hub replaced and awoke to find a puddle of axle oil on the ground and little drips coming from the hub side. It's not grease but the acride bo smell off the axle oil. Firstly I would just like to check that it is most likely the oil seal and secondly some advice on proceeding from there onwards.
If it is the axle oil seal is it a straightforward procedure to replace it or is it likely to be a dog of a job.
Should I replace the cv gaitor at the same time just in case?
How much more time would I require from the point of removal of the new hub?

Thanks in advance guys.

He has offered to do it James but I was just curious as to how long it would take if I was to do it myself. I think an afternoon is a bit too much for me to afford and especially if I get tit wrong again. I will get the parts ordered and get the car back to the mechanic. Thanks for that.

depends why its leaking , coincidence just one of those things ,because they damaged it or steering knuckle is out of alignment as so putting shaft out to,
to remove a new hub you undo the 4 securing bolts a few mm then tap the bolt heads in turn to create a gap to get a lever bar in between hub and knuckle

The mechanic is a friend of mine and he's just asked me to get the parts ordered. I'm thinking that would mean just a new oil seal. Would I be more or less correct in saying that?

Hi,
There is a known issue with the front oil seal that some are manufactured with the internal diameter too small and the dust sheild rips them up in a very short space of time. I'm also a member of The D2 Boys club and one member has managed to source the correct size seals which cure the problem. Out of interest ask the person who replaced the hub if they also replaced the oil seal, if so I'll bet that's what's happened.
