So I've been looking at a 2008 freelander 2 that's near my home in a car dealership, and he wants £5500 for it. It's very clean in and out and the milage is 10800. Comes with a years MOT and six months warranty . Guy seems genuine but don't know if its a decent deal. Checked MOT history to. Never failed on anything major. 4 new tyres and looks to have had all 4 suspension springs replaced. Its an automatic 2.2 td4. Thoughts? Thanks for any help

Value is very dependent on model specification, mileage and condition, although it seems expensive for the year and miles TBH.
For a quick price guide, put the details into We Buy Any Car and see what the valuation is. This valuation will be about ½ a forecourt price.

I paid £2k for my 2009 MY TD4 SE manual 3 ½ years ago, which had 119k on it at the time. However this did need an engine repair (a previous "mechanic" dropped a nut into the engine intake) causing damage to the piston and head. I also had to replace the diff as there wasn't any oil in it.
Where I live, I should get about £3.5k for mine in its current condition.

Bear in mind that the injectors have a reliable life of about 100k before they begin to fail, so you would need to factor that these could fail soon if they're originals. Injectors on these are throw away items (avoid "reconditioned" replacements), and new Bosch injectors are over £200 ea plus installation and programming.
Also keep in mind that the shocks begin to fail at around 120k, requiring replacement.

Have you compared it to any on ebay has a guide, when was the belts done if they have been done, is the Haldex working has it should, has the rear diff had an oil change, the front PTU oil change, auto box oil change, if not all things to consider.

Don't get hung up on the little list above because 9 -10 they haven't been done away, bonus if they have.

FWIW, I bought my FL2, 08 plate, HSE, Manual with 82k on the clock for £5,200. FSH, belt and water pump changed, new clutch ( inc DMF) in 2023. Immaculate condition inside and out. Since then I've had a full service on it, including all drive train oils and brake fluid changed, and that cost me £590.

Hope that helps.

I will be selling mine (2007) in a few months, it has 180,000 miles on it but it is well maintained with new timing belt, shocks and front bearings.

It’s not a sales pitch but I’ll be listing at £2,499 and expecting £2,200. Bear that in mind with the future value of the one you are looking at.

Maybe I've been lucky with mine as it's only had one rear shock replaced and the injectors are all original. It's done over 204,000 miles to date, so coming up for it's 2nd timing belt change.
Never had any of the engine sensors fail as far as I can recall, though I have cleaned the MAF sensor a few times.
Glow plugs have never worked, and as I've never had any problems starting in the depths of winter I've never got round to replacing them (I wager they'd be a bitch to remove now).
Throttle body was replaced after it's gears stripped last year.
It's had more windscreens than brake discs!

Corrosion now taking its toll. I replaced the rear subframe a few weeks ago but the rest of the underside isn't to bad. Some bubbling around the front leading corners of the bonnet, the tailgate handle and the rear body panels where the passenger doors close.

What's it worth? Bugger all I suppose, but keeping it going is cheaper than buying anything of similar quality, though I am seriously considering a newer, low mileage FL2 . . . if I can find one at the right price.

When this one dies it'll be something major and someone can have it as a project for a song.

Generally the FL2 is capable of high mileages, I know with correct oil changes, the engine will do 300k plus.

Generally the injectors aren't very long lived, but if you're on 200k on the originals, it's doing well.
Throttle body's fail for a past time, as do crank sensors, so having just one TB is lucky. The shocks can leak, and the odd spring can break, but on the whole the vehicle is very durable if used on roads. Off road use causes rapid wear of suspension components, mainly because the suspension is modified Ford Mondeo stuff.

So from the comments I've read is, that as long as it doesn't make any negative noise on the test drive. And he can give warranty, full MOT no advisories. And proof belt and pump has been changed. Then it's a OK deal? I'll replace all oils when I purchase anyway to be safe. So should I go for it? He has dropped price down to £4999 now also.

Have a test drive and check every single transmission function: HDC, DSC, Sports Mode inc manual gear changes. Faults there are expensive.
Check all the doors lock on ONE keypress of the fob. I have one door that doesn't, but does on the second press.
Check the function of every bell and whistle the car possesses.

Offer him 4,500 ;)
