Hi

have a 2002 Landrover Freelander TD4. It runs well and has 110000 on the clock, however it has started to become really hard to get into gear, feels sticky when moving through the gears as well.
Any ideas what the issue maybe or know if anyone in West Yorkshire who maybe able to fix for not a lot of money?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with the TD4 Getrag gearbox, mine's the Rover/PG1 box. Generally, there's a drain and fill plug/bolt. I checked the level on mine by undoing the fill plug and I could see/feel it was still up to level and I knew when I changed it, so I was happy with it. I'm not sure what the replacement interval is on the gearboxes, I did mine about 5 years ago. If you're unsure of when the oil was last changed you might consider draining and refilling - it was easy on my PG1 box with a 'syringe' filler.

To find the fill and drain plugs and info refilling, have a read of the LR 'Rave' Workshop Manual. There's info on downloading it here...

There's 2 manuals for Freelander, you want the later one that covers the TD4. The manual needs a Windows PC to install on.

If the clutch feels OK then check the linkages which can cause problems. Just crawl under and push pull them and look for slack connections
If all OK then try changing the oil in the gearbox oil which is probably overdue changing anyway. You need good quality strong allen keys for this as the fill and drain plugs are tight.
Allen keys for a 1/4" socket set are very helpful.
