Hi, I´m new here... apologies for jumping right in with a question:
So I have a 2003 Freelander 1 TD4, with around 378K km, so she's aging but holding up quite well ;)
Now the issue I have is intermittent but occasionally when I kill the ignition and remove the key the engine still runs for another 3 to 5 seconds and after this next time I start the car the yellow engine warning emoji turns on. It can happen a couple times in a row, and then not do it for a few days. Or it cold be fine for a month and the does it 5-6 times in a day...
Anybody experienced something similar?
Any ideas??

Cheers and warm regards from northern Spain.

Think your Hippo is identifying as a modern diesel and is doing a DPF burn. :D

How long have you owned the vehicle? It doesn't have a Turbo Timer on it by any chance?

Does it kick out much smoke?

Does it have trouble starting?

Had similar. Diesels can run on due to leaky turbo seals and engine burns oil but that is usually terminal and the engine does it for a long time until it has drunk all the oil in the sump.

Mine ran on for a short time when the HP pump seals were leaking and the pump was spraying diesel vapour into the crankcase and the engine ran on that for a while.

A recon HP pump resolved the issue.

Do something before it runs on and runs away. Google diesel run away for a view of what could happen if it is the turbo seals.

-I’ve had sporadic issues starting it, but eventually she gets going…
-no smoke kick out that I’ve noticed 🤷🏼‍♂️
-I’m ignorant with regards to the turbo timer 🤔 but will google it.

Had the HP pump serviced some months ago, maybe 6… didn’t change it because my mechanic couldn’t find a spare here in Spain. But might look for one online and have him switch it… Any suggestions for a reputable online parts dealer ??
