Kinda proves that the Freelander sport was just designed for stupid people. I had a normal Freelander TD4 ES and ground clearance was so bad that I managed to rip off my entire exhaust while driving along a normal/unchallenging green lane. Why anyone would want a Freelander with even LESS ground clearance is totally beyond me.

Sorry but that is just one thing that I really can't get my ahead around. It makes absolutely no sense.

Also, the bit about getting attention at night is BS. My TD4 was unfortunate to have the "fancy" 17" alloy wheels and believe me, it didn't get much attention and if it did, they were just laughs...

You could put them into the same category but as for the Range Rover Sport, not so much because it's not as low as the Freelander 1 sport to start with and as far as I know, it has controls to adjust the ride height of the vehicle, thus making it more adaptable and suitable for its purpose.

The Freelander 1 sport on the other hand is totally ridiculous and doesn't fit into the market very well at all. What's the point in having a car that's not fit for its own purpose? This leads me to think that it's just designed for people who just want the 4x4 looks and nothing else, which is stupid to say the least.

- Most people who want a sports car would buy something like a BMW Z4 or something of the sort
- Most people who just need a good tow car with lots of space would buy something like a Volvo estate
- Most people who need something capable for off roading/snow would at least get a better prepared 4x4

So what kind of people would want a Freelander sport? There's only reasons as to why people would want one of these, are all stupid ones. What sort of people buy things for stupid reasons? Stupid people.

Sure, we all have that thing called choice which is why even Land Rover cater for stupid people!

Jealous of what exactly? I had bought a top of the range model Freelander TD4 ES-X. I'm sure I could have bought a Sport edition instead for less money if I wanted to do something even more stupid! Fortunately I got rid of that when I realised that it wasn't worth the hassle.

At the end of the day, if anyone's going to be spending some time stuck in a ditch, it will probably be you and not me. Do you really think I'm jealous of that?

Anyway, while we're at it, why don't we sum up the Freelander Sport?

- Not designed for off roading or green laning
- Not suitable for heavy towing
- Not suitable for carrying large loads
- Not capable of giving good performance (it's still slow)
- Still not capable of delivering good handling (it's still heavy and aerodynamically crap)
- Not designed to be fuel efficient
- Sport spec not brilliant in snow

So wtf is it good for? It is practically pointless. There's a better car out there for every situation. So therefore, it must be designed for stupid people.

Sure I get the fact that we all have the choice to do pretty much whatever we want in life, but that doesn't make it any less stupid. For instance, I could go to work in my pyjamas if I wanted, doesn't mean it wouldn't be stupid!

If I paid a 2 or 3 grand premium over a standard car (& that's secondhand) for one with a Sport badge I'd expect it to go like a Sport & I mean really go like outdo a standard car fitted with a synergy.
I'm not jealous at all, you've bought possibly the least sporty car to carry that badge in recent years. At least the bloody RR Sport has some performance as does the Porsche & of course Bowler. Your car would only give a Daewoo Matiz a hard time.

Right where to start, its 30mm lower than a standard Freelander, thats 30mm not 30 feet, they way you are going on anyone would think its driving round on its arse.
Its towing capacity is 2000kg, same as any Freelander TD4.
just as suitable for carrying large loads as any Freelander.
Just as incapable as giving good performance as any Freelander.
It does handle better than a standard Freelander.
No Landrover (Up untill very recently) has ever been fuel efficient.
Come and see my Freelander Sport in very hilly Pennine Yorkshire when its snowing and tell me its not brilliant in the snow.

You are talking bollocks, your comments do not stack up. You are hiding behind the Freelander Sport to slag off the Freelander in general, you are entitled to your opinion, just as i am.
 
They all like to tell us our Freelanders are ****e on ere. Eggspecially the tratter boys. So much so that every mile I drive I think it will be my last. HGF, slipped liners, should get a real 4x4, over heating, auto packing up, split rear thing, sunroof won't open, tailgate won't open when frosted over, curling tong jokes, not enough ground clearance, don't have real axles, can't tow 20 ton trucks, can't fit pigs in the back, can't drive orf road, coolant is leaking as I type, doors falling orf, vcu's are bollocks, we're gay, ird case will crack open, rear diff will fall orf, eggsaurce is too low, fundamentals of transmission is all wrong, int a real landrover, can't carry a bale of hay int back wiv yer pig, pram wheels, no low box, plastic front wings, electrical problems, pinks our favourite colour.

It's a good job tratters don't have faults or break down. Never has a vehicle been so good, that it needed so many mods to make it bearable to live wiv.

Can't believe your all arguing over this ! We're all freelander owners either way
From experience the sport badge is more for the standard of car
Ie the sport has more extras than the standard freebie has.
When i moved from a freelander 1 to a freelander 1 sport the difference was amazing and if I was to ever get another freelander I would get the sport just as it's got more features than the standard car
And they look pretty mean with the 17" alloys 

But Sadly won't be getting another freelander as the range rover is much better ! 

Hi all, ive joined this forum this morning and this is my first post. And guess what ive just bought a td4 sport for the wife as she likes its looks and the fact she wont get stranded in the snow as she has done in previous years in a car. so shes not going green lane'n and not gona be racing a Daewoo Matiza, as for paying over the odds for badge we paided no more
than any other well spec'd model of a similar age & milage. and just to cap it all off im finding the chat & batner on here is that interesting i feel the need to cancel my sky subscription. so please keep it up its highly amusing.

I like the sport, i like how it does everything the standard one does but has nicer alloys and a better stance.

As for not handling, really? Have you ever driven a freeby hard?
Decent tyres and good brakes and a understanding of how it reacts in corners and you can charge across country very quickly. Mine handles very well and ive threw it around plenty and not once has it stepped out and tried to throw me off the road.

Must be the track day courses showing to understand grip and take lines and brake in time.

Also a remap is £400, improves acceleration figures by a large amount, 3 seconds less to 60 for a kicke off. Also mine returns high 30s and when covering mostly motorway miles i can clear 44mpg, or 585miles to a tank, But then thats not economical isnt it?

Although i dont use mine off road as theres no lanes near me, or pay and play sites. I dont lose sleep over it though.

Enjoy your new freeby, get the EGR, hoses and crankcase filter sorted. Make sure the tyres are M+S rated and a decent make and the one with more tread is on the rear and enjoy your new 4x4.

mine a TD4 sport manual 3dr, love towing with it with the harder suspension feels very solid on the road, great in the snow very capable,take the roof off and you have a convertible chuck four bikes on the roof and three of the back no problems.... I dont do any greenlaning anymore but did with my previous two TD4 GS and found them very capable this one was brought for the sole intention of caravanning so most of the time on the road so needed a car biased towards that, I love the open air roof the three door gives and couldnt find a car that ticked all the boxes that looked as good as a FL. May look at increasing performance though as agreed you would think the sport would have a bit more ooomph

Yes - lots of folks think that the 'Sport' version has more power - but no! - it only looks sporty. No problem in that, but its another LR surprise. :confused:

Lots of mods to improve performance, reliability and mpg.

You get a great feeling of satisfaction seeing the difference each one makes. :D

I would suggest starting with the useless EGR and upgrade the pcv.
