Hi everyone I'm pete and new to the forum first round is on me.

Ok so I'm after a little help with my freelander, I want to do a 2 inch lift on the car but I don't want to buy the kit I can make everything at work as I'm a fabricator for a living and have access to all the equipment. I just can't find any drawings for the parts mainly the top plates.

Has any one here done there own before? If you did could you provide the measurements please. I really don't want to pull the wagon apart twice if I don't need to

Many thanks
Pete

SES makes them and other stuff. He is a fabricator too. I don't think anyone who has made them will give out the measurements. They all have invested time and money to prototype and fab up so giving stuff away isn't good business sense.

Yeah that I can see and understand we do the same at work too RnD is costly but I'm not looking to produce a product just a 1 off set for myself I have no interest or time to build more lol

Its just to save the hassle of pulling my daily drive apart to take the dimensions I can't afford to buy struts for no reason to do it

Not a chance I'd give away my sizes.

I've a pair of struts (one front one rear) sitting around which I'll sell you cheap if you want them.

How cheap is cheap lol plus postage obviously I don't mind putting the work in to make the parts just can't take the car off to road for the measurements catch 22

To be honest it's a kind offer and I thank you but I can make and plate the whole kit for less than that and as I won't be selling any it's not worth an outlay like that for something I don't need I will just take my car apart for free or dive into a breakers yard and measure one up

Bit disappointed that there are not more d.I.yers on here that make there own stuff that are willing to share with a fellow owner

Thanks
Pete

There's one major issue with doing DIY suspension mods... If they fail when driving, you're fecked, puts a lot of people off. You can buy the cheapo kits on ebay for 40 quid, but they're exactly that, cheap, 2 plates with a bit of CHS in the middle, welded only on one side, and flex like a sheet of paper as there's no inherent strength in the design.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do

I can understand entirely why traders won't let the info go and why some choose to buy rather than building

But I'm a builder not a buyer I have been building and repairing my own.offroaders for years any thing from dihatsu and suzuki to big range rovers. I also use my skills to support macmillan cancer support I help to look after discovery that competes in the mac challenge most recent i custom made a new boot floor for free I covered the cost of the steel and charged no labour I also attend shows with the team. I always try to share my experience and knowledge with others where I can and help out.

Look I don't want people to get the wrong idea about me I'm a genuine guy I work hard for a living and I do more for others than myself I was looking for some information to save me twice the time having my car off the road as it's my only transport ... I'm not going to get the information here that's obvious now I'm happy for the guys that can afford to buy and pay someone else to fit but I can't and wouldn't anyway pride in building is much more satisfying

I understand where you are coming from, but I suspect most of us on here do not have the knowledge or skills to do what you want to do or in my case the inclination, or time.

Been there done that lol want to do the freelander now... mabie it's a different breed of owner that drives freelanders and offroading one is not the done thing

I dunno mabie it's just me that believed in 4x4 owners sticking together no matter the brand name
