I have developed a knocking noise when I steer right, it seems to come from the front but not sure. If I lift off the Knocking goes. How do I make sure if its front or back, and am I better buying a complete shaft. Yr 2000 petrol 1800.

Found out myself. usualy if its the front inner it tends to judder and if its the front it knocks on full lock under power, if you lift of the knocking stops. Bought a new outer for £78 fitting is easey for a diy.

These vehicles do come with a lot of problems and I have had my share, new engine 56000 miles under warranty, new IRD thats the 4 wheel drive gear box 81000 miles £550 reconditioned + £250 labour O/Side Elec window wire snapped £82 as you have to replace the lot( replaced the wire and have re-strung the old one if any one is interested, C.V. joint N/Side £90 (easy to do) note 2000 is the year they changed the design, pre 2000 has a central nut to hold the hub on later models have a bolt. ( I ordered wrongly and now have a brand new C.V. N/Side that is the bolt type for sale.

Took my freelander into the landrover dealer, they listed me 16 things wrong with it. Wish I hadnt bothered now...
