A friend has asked me to change the belts on his 98 Freelander which has the dsl engine .
I have changed plenty of belts mostly on dsl cars and a few 300 Tdi's .
I have a Haynes manual for the Freelander as I changed an engine in a Td4 last year and it also covers the L engine.
However from past experience of Haynes I found they can put a lot of extra work on you which you only realise after the job's done and they don't warn about some part of the job that can be very tricky .
The best advice comes from those who have done the job a few times and have come across and solved (hopefully) various problems.
Is this job fairly straightforward as tbelts go or are there any ' tricky' parts or special tools that can't be done without ?
Should tensioners/adjusters be changed ?
Any advice greatly appreciated before I decide to go ahead next weekend .
