Good afternoon

looking for some help my Freelander 2 63 plate 2.2 manual keeps going into limp mode this can do this from start up or even after in has been driving for 5-10 mins. The other day I drove 500miles in it and no issues today on start up it went straight into limp mode. Placing the gap tool on it and reading the fault this is what’s coming up “
PCM-Engine I4 Diesel

  • P007A-62 (2F) Charge air cooler temperature sensor circuit - Bank 1 - Algorithm based failure - signal compare failure”
After clearing the fault it can come back 5 mins later or not for a day or so. I can’t see an charged air cooler temp sensor fitted on mine just blank plate were I think it should be. Looking at live values while driving this is showing as -40.c and does not move.
Anyone had this issue or and pointer where to go next with this.
Kind regards
Andy

It has an intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, it's in the throttle body.

No 16 in this image.

As above the IAT sensor maybe coated in gunk and needs cleaning, use only electrical contact cleaner, spray it a few times to clean, do not rub it with anything let it dry before re-fitting.

So looking again at it as per the drawing above and it’s definitely blanked off with no plug on it at all. From what I can see there is no wire or plug close by that is unplugged that could be used for this IAT.

That's odd. I can't see how can the ECM calculate fueling correctly, without knowing how hot the air is a it's going into the engine.

Happy Sunday 👍 hope you are doing well! Sounds like a new mass air flow sensor has done the trick for you which is great news!

I have a similar issue with the Freelander being absolutely fine when driving and then occasionally will go into limp mode very randomly and not even able to even move out of the blue, which has been pretty dangerous. The fault code 'P007A -17 - charge air cooler temperature circuit bank 1' which is set to permanent is on and I have taken out the mass air flow sensor and gave that a really good clean with wd40 contact specialist spray and fault hasn't cleared. I have also checked where the IAT sensor in the throttle body should be and it is the same as yours where something is bolted in and blanked off with no available electrician connection that I can find to even put one in. - is this a change to the newer models after 2013 or is this a fault by previous owner and a needs a new throttle body IAT to be added?

I am considering buying a new Mass air flow sensor like you and see if that does the job but would be great to get some advice as how to proceed. I feel like it relatively simple fix but I need to discover the right diagnosis first!

Any recommendations would be really really appreciated! Thank you 🙏👍👍

Thanks all replaced the mass air flow sensor on Monday and fault has cleared and car running as should now touch wood. Got a drive to do this week so that will give it a good test.
I am going to buy a new mass air flow sensor and see if that works, which would you recommend or have a link to the genuine land rover MAF sensor I need to get? Or should any of them do the trick?

Cheers 👍👍

Hi, you are correct. My throttle body does not have the sensor fitted either. Just blanked off. I replaced the throttle body after finding oil under the cover when the little dc motor lives to operate the valve. Gear teeth were all fine and replacing the throttle body did not clear the fault ie poor acceleration or sometimes would stall when trying to pull away. Now that winter is here and the outside temperature has dropped, the fault hasn't returned? So in my mind there must be a sensor giving incorrect info on air temperature?
