First thoughts are, your car is 3 years old it should have a 3 year old (working) gearbox, a reconditioned (working) one with a years warranty doesn't seem a bad offer.

But from LR own admission they have an issue that should have been delt with earlier this year that MIGHT have prevented yours from failing, someone with better legal knowledge would be able to tell if they are legally rather than morrally reponsible.
LR do have the habit of contributing the repairs for vehicles just out of warranty - depends on the dealer/circumstance, it's possible they have "offered" 66% of the cost and your dealer is taking up the slack by interpreting this as a reconditioned box?

Hi,

Update Is the garage have agreed to fit the NEW gearbox in my car and it should be ready the 1st week in January ! Meanwhile my insurance are covering a hire car for me up to the value of £40 per day and then the garage is paying the remainder in order for my to get a "like for like" 4x4. Im now driving a Tiguan and finding it pretty fine. The fuel economy is great. Im getting average 7 lt/100kms and in m y landrover i was struggling to get 10lts/100kms.

update,

I got a surprise call this morning from the workshop to tell me e car is ready and it has a "new" gearbox installed and i can come to collect it. In the second sentence they told me that they heard a noise from the car on the test drive and they have found a problem with the back diff!! I will need to re book it into the workshop in feb and they told me the Job involves changing bearings etc.... Happy days

Has anyone else heard about this problem with the diff?

Happy new year when it comes

Hi, My FL2 has transmission problem, in garage since 4/6/'11. Purchased in '07. Has 113km's, now out of warrenty - read about Q106 on this forum. When I wrote to LR (UK), pointing out that I hadn't received notification, they finally replied today offering 25% discount on replacing a new transmission. This will cost me €2400. Not pleased with this, but do I have any alternative other that accept?
