Hi just bought this car from my Dad and I'm new to this forum so hi to you all and thanks for taking the time to view my post.

I wanted to find out if i can change both the sat nav and the audio double din units, for something more up to date.

I read the 2011 post which covers a great deal of issues but it didn't (unless i missed one of the 43 pages) cover changing both the factory fitted Sat Nav and the separate 3 CD/radio units. It also ends in 2013 so is 4 years since last post and 6 years since it was originally posted.

The car is a 2009 HSE Freelander 2 it has parking sensors front and back and steering column bluetooth and volume controls. The speakers are Alpine units.

Has anyone swapped both units are they connected.
Can you extend a screen from a combined sat nav / DD audio to the top of the dash to fit in the sat nav space.
Are there any recommended manufactures that are good for this set up.
If it has to be a separate audio unit and a Garmin/TomTom type sat nav any suggestions as to models.
Who supplies the best connectors for easy install / fascias to match the original dash finish.
Has anyone come across a step by step guide. (with pictures ;))

I have tried to find someone to fit this but they want to sell me an all in one DD unit, but is too low down the centre console and I'd really like to swap both to keep the look and not have the sat nav dead at the top of the dash. The space is insufficient for the unit to go where the sat nav is and that leave the old cd/radios dead below.
They also want £1500 supply and fit, in the quote they offer a DD unit 'all in one' price approx £600 or £800 so your talking about £1000 to fit, they say the fitting costs are due to the components needed to connect the car to the new units which does ring true from the other post i read as i mentioned above.
We're in South London does anyone have any installer recommendations.

Thanks for reading

welcome to the asylum

@Hippo is ur man,

hopefully he should be along to help

if it's anything like the satnav systems in discos they are all intergrated, having a cable called , MOST , along with fibre optics

where each component connects with one another, so u can't remove the unit ,

however it might be different on the FL2

sorry i can't be more help , where abouts in south london are u

also there is a freelander section

Thanks for the reply, i hoped to be able to find what the best options would be to try and keep as much functionality as possible.
Most units seem to be able to handle the steering column phone and volume controls
I'm uncertain about the front sensors but the rear sensors seem ok
Sat nav unclear as to what this does with the car but i suspect its more than just a box in the dash, but if it does more than that some of the functions might not be needed

Would the sat nav retain its functions if the audio unit was replaced.

We don't need all sing dancing, just a stereo that has more modern connectivity (USB / Bluetooth music) and a sat nav as the FF one is old and the screens on it's way out.

It just appear very expensive ...god help us if either unit was faulty?

ur very welcome

if it does have the same "MOST " system as the disco , it would interrupt alot, i.e. sat nav, bluetooth , phone, etc

think the park assist would stop working as well

the tuner is used like a large connection system, as each item is linked together , like a daisy chain

but please don't take that as gospel seeing i'm not 100% ofay with the FL2 system
