Afternoon kindly folk. New bloke here, got a second motor, its an 07 Freelander 2 diesel SE

It keeps throwing electrical faults, ie several system checks on a short trip, opening windows on opening, failing to unlock etc.

Ive been looking for a reputable local (Blackpool) mechanic / electrician to have a look and give me a heads up as to whether a new BCM is required.

Tried the replacement battery, that had no effect. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Any assistance massively appreciated, cheers folks.

Chris

First welcome and for the price of my ten pence worth if all electrics are playing up you might have earthing issues. Best get diagnosed first for your peace of mind. Had the seller raised these issue on sale of vehicle or sold as seen at auction. Because you have the right to return said vehicle if a diagnostic say expensive.

The problems didn't occur straight away, however I immediately upgraded wheels, fitted side bars, tail gate kit and roof rack and left it a little too long for me to have any recourse.

Its strange, the dash will turn itself off, then reset and go through each light etc yet the outside lights don't flicker at all.

Never thought of an earth issue. Thankyou

The BCM is very expensive and often blamed for electrical faults - but from what I've seen it usually isn't the culprit.

Its may be something completely unrelated to the symptoms you are seeing, but it is sending spurious messages around the car's many networks and causing strange behaviour elsewhere.

If there is anything on the car you have any suspicions about, try to isolate (remove) it - even down to light switches if you're only going out in the day and wiper switches if its not raining. It sounds mad, but fighting these electrical issues on cars like the F2 can be a nightmare.

BCM also has nothing to do with the dashboard (I Pack). You're best getting a thorough diagnostic done. Or buy yourself a Gap Diagnostics IID BT diagnostic device. It's reasonably expensive, but will pay for itself with these very complex modern LRs. ;)
