Hi guys. Anyone who saw my last post will know I've just acquired a facelift FL1 HSE.

It has the Becker sat nav fitted (single slot cd - no autochanger). It has been supplied with the original manual and with the navigation cd .... It's not to my taste as we have sat nav already which is a bit more modern so I'm sticking with that.

Question is... Is it worth removing and selling the satnav unit, disc and manual. Does anyone know roughly what it should be worth? Was thinking fleabay would be the best place for it... If its worth anything.

Like all built-in LR sat-navs it's worthless without updating the maps. :(

The cost of up-dating the maps is more than a top notch Garmin for example. :(

I didn't want built-in sat-nav when I bought the car from new - but LR HSE spec said I had to have it. No delete option. It's useless - no map display and takes an age to input destinations. :mad:

The routing info was OK for about 3 months then it became out of date. After over 2 years LR produced up-dated info and wrote to offer me the discs for just over £200 - no thank you! :(

My lifetime subscription Garmin is updated 4 times a year at little cost. :D

I've kept the original H-K system only for the CD changer function and the steering-wheel remote facility.

Sell it if you can - but IMHO it's worthless. If you get more than 2 bids on eBay let me know and I'll list mine as well. :rolleyes:

On the other hand - in 30 years time when I donate the car to a transport museum - it'll still be 'original'. :p

Cheers. I stand corrected about it being single CD as I have just discovered a 6 disc changer cheekily hidden under the drivers seat.

Any idea where the jack / tool kit is?

Just to let you know that I did the same thing. The blaupunkt unitwent straight in and worked perfectly with the exception of steering wheel controls.

Becker unit still sat at home wiht manual/cd/security code etc. Would you not consider keeping it to put back in when/if you sell it ?....ebt

Mine is dry too - I suspect that the HSEs with all the H-K stuff got a little more attention to the sealing.

Despite all the woof stuff there is still room for the tool box.

However I keep my tool box above the compartment so I don't have to take everything out to get at it.

Check that the changer has a CD cassette holder gismo which is ejected when you press the button - they are v expensive to buy on their own.

In it's defence, the Becker SatNav, despite it's screen limitations gives brilliant audio instructions, I've got 2007 maps on mine and have never stumbled across a road so vastly changed as to make the SatNav useless.

I've got a TomTom as well, but often use the Becker nav, when I can't be bothered to stick the TomTom to the screen. I also appreciate that you don't have to wait for it to "lock on" to a signal, the gyros and speedo input means it always knows where you are, signal or not.

Of course it may have moved as your map disc is likely to be 6 years or so out of date. :p

I have a set of discs - the latest I could get made in Sept 2007 and then dated as the 2008 update.

So bear in mind it has no knowledge of any new junctions, roundabouts etc since 2007 at the latest.

Buy a Garmin - it's cheaper than new discs and has a screen.
 
Thanks.. I'm new to freelander... I have a Jag ( usless in snow) which has a decent satnav and I also have a Tom Tom I can use but although the becker is old hat it does a job (of sorts) and Has a radio (even SW / multi cd / Harman Kardon and it fits in nice with the rest of the car, I looked the other day in Halford to see what's involved in upgrading to Digital radio, seems it will cost about £170 , but i'm not sure when the anolog signals will switch off.

You're right - the radio is good - I've kept it because it has SW.
 
Correct me if i,m wrong as a newbie but is the jack etc not in the engine bay just behind the battery?
