Hi,
New here and really need some help. I have a 55 plate Freelander 1.8 petrol. It was overheating and eventually the head went! It is at a LandRover specialist garage and so far it has had a reconditioned engine, new water pump, new thermostat, new radiator and timing belt. It is still overheating and garage has basically given up on it! They do not know what else to do. Any GENIUS mechanics out there???? It should be noted that I am a woman and as such do not understand "car talk" lol.

Are you any good at cake and pie's?? :D:D

So you ask for a solution for you problem and when a genuine post answers that question with the most probable answer, you favour slobbery nobs question about cake:confused:

bleddy noobs, dunt go asking me no questions now:dnfnoob:

Wow, Freelaner, I did not mean to insult you. I was thinking your reply through! I would presume that a garage would know how to drain the system, but having said that maybe not. I had read somewhere that a vacuum fill might be necessary, but have no idea what this means. As a woman it is difficult for me to go to the garage and ask questions I know nothing about!
Me: "Have you drained the system properly?"
Them: "Hahahahahahahahaha, silly woman, back to your baking!"
Thank you very much for your reply :)

took yer long enuff ;)

i'm not insulted in the least

stop playing up the fact yer a wimmins anorl :D

even garages get bleeding these cooling systems wrong, so they will probly listen to you if they can get it solved.

do a search on here for a how to bleed the cooling system....good luck.

thats the thing about this forum, Lorrain, you can learn :) and then yu can ask the questions with knowledge and an air of authority :D

:welcome:

psst - yu also need a cast iron flak jacket.

mite also be useful to change yo usercp to give us an idea where you are.

having just read the first post again , check the timing and the temperature sensor is ok,perhaps the wires for fan temp and guage temp have been swapped, or thermostat unit fitted incorrectly.

Thanks Freelaner, will ask them tomorrow.
Freelance, I know the thermostat that was on originally was the wrong type and in the wrong place (a large housing unit with thermostat inside). They changed it to the other thermostat and it did not make any difference, so they have changed it back again. As for radiator flow...I am not sure. Before all the garage work the bottom hose was cold.
Thanks Guys

ah, did they leave the thermostat in the pipe at the back of the engine when the refitted the prt stat(the big one in the housing at the front near the rad) this would cause lots of probs. you would have two stats in the system.

I don't think so, but I will ask. Pretty sure they removed front one in housing and put one in the back. Then, when no difference put the front one back on and removed back one!

good if they have, although the prt isn't listed for pre 2001 models it is an upgrade that I and many others have fitted to theirs.

i would bet it needs bleeding but lets see how it goes ;)

yep MHM it could be a lot of things, that's why I suggested the search.
i think between us we've spent many hours discussing the short comings of the K-Series' cooling system.
