Free fuel ?

Well yesterday I spent ages filtering old chip oil through a cloth. Today I thought ( probably unwisely ) to empty the two litres into Phoebes tank.
Just had a service so thought I'd risk it. Went for a little poodle about and am glad to say no smell no difference in performance ( not that I had much in the first place ) but to be fair two litres in half a tank isn't much.
After all that dirty work I thought is it worth it ? Especially as I pay about 80 p a litre !
Of course it is it's free !

For 2 litres - probably not worth the risk - but if you can do decent quantity and it works, there's benefits

Your quite right Gerald, it's hardly worth the effort BUT the useful info is Phoebe now accelerates like a good un so was definitely an almost totally blocked fuel filter.
I'm still waiting to hear how much the repairs will cost so will keep you informed.

I'm wondering whether to change my fuel filter then. I've never changed it and it looks like its probably original

for now though, I'll stick to turning grapes into wine rather than chip fat into fuel

Well jesus my new filter looks totally different to the old unit, pipes come from the top which makes sense if all the crud settles in the bottom.
Seriously has made a world of difference and for £12 odd well worth it.
Phoebe just accelerates sooo much better.

Years ago peeps went mad trying to make cheap fool from chip fat. Our local chippy constantly nagged me to buy it from him. I kept tellin him ma hippo was petrol but the nob said convert it to diesel. I stopped going there in the end. One day his mate came in who also bought the waste oil. He tried to put him forward as some sort of eggsample. He ran several cars on it and seemed to be the local go to for brewing tips but announced he was stopping as he'd just f*ked the Mrs fiesta and was awaiting to hear of the repair cost. She didn't know at the time.

Anyways he sold to a number of people locally who spent many hours messing with their home brew fool in an attempt to reduce motoring costs. One by one they stopped due to problems or just got fed up of it. The good news is another chippy opened up so I go there instead.

I don't know how well Freelander engines cope with it but personally I wouldn't take the risk. Its also a hazard yer house insurance may not be keen on.

It's worth while if you go at if properly, but don't bother for a couple of litres. That's my take on it.

I buy more fuel for my chainsaw than I do for the car, but you kind of need to be committed for it to work

Won't hurt my ancient old engine but wouldn't try it on anything that had any real value !
It's just I've now got 25 litres of the stuff and I'd have to pay to get it recycled.
Just fort I'd use a few litres every time I fill up but as it's so cheap here your right it took me two hours for £1-60 !
