Had my 54 plate td4 from 58k - 110k, loved it. In that time I replaced faulty electric windows. Rear door switch handle.fitted egr blank plate, had the clutch replaced around 90k then went again at 110k!! So I sold it. Not sure why the 2nd clutch didn’t last long. No towing. Apart from the golf ball dink’s that seemed to appear overtime I’m thinking of buying another. Been about 5 years now. Or is the free lander 2 really a better prospect!

According to our sage and Freelander holy father Nodge the Wise. Freelander 2 is better and improved version.

It depends on your interpretation of better. Newer design, yes. Stronger more crash resistant body, yes. More powerful and faster as a result, yes. Better handling, yes. Better equipment, yes if you choose the right model. More space, yes.
As easy and cheap to maintain, no.

I've had a couple of FL1's. I'd go for a FL2 if I was in the market for one. Yes, more expensive to fix but less likely to go wrong in the first place from what I've read 😅 lots of niggly, annoying potential issues on a mark 1 hippo imo

I've had both, my main reason for not getting another fl1 is that it has the same crash safety rating as the ford fiesta ! The fl2 drives better, stops better and the heated seats are much better. At the end of the day it usually comes down to money. If you need a farm/fishing cheap 4x4 then fl1, if you want to use it every day as a family car then fl2 imo
😁

I could have had a 13/14 plate freelander 2
low mileage but £ expensive
but decided on buying the best freelander 1 I could find and basically spent money on the things it needed
but sometimes I wish I had spent the money 😂
but definitely not when I see the state of the back with the dogs 😩

Thank you all for your experiences. Cosmetically I’d like to go for a mk2 but concerned about potentially higher maintenance costs. I’m on a budget and knowing the issues I’d experienced in the past my look out for a mk1 still. I’ll see what becomes available in my budget. Thanks everyone
