Hi Guys

Just getting my p38 ready for its mot.

Just found out the fog lamps that are fitted on the front arnt actually connected to anything?????

They have the connectors fitted to the lights but cant see a connector for them to fit to.

My question is will the car pass its MOT with these fitted but not connected / working or should I remove them? This would obviously leave the holes in the front bumper where they were fitted.

Its a Deisel Manual

It has a body kit on it which has 2 fog lamps fitted into the front spoiler
 
Hello... If it helps I had a 1994 xj40 that had the fog lights disconnected cuz both the lamp holders at the back of them had melted off !!.. the bloke failed it at the mot cuz they did not work but were in place....

Front fogs dont form part of the test, how'd he fail you on it?
 
Hi just to let you know i am a MOT tester, front fog lights are not part of the test fitted or not!!

And you can have fog lights on a manual diesel just not an auto one, My manual does not have anything behind the nearside for light cover.
 
Two possibilities, the tester wanted the retest fee, or I believe that the MOT requires that any lamp fitted must work

wrong the mot does not require driving lamps, work lamps, reverse lamps, front fog lamps or interior lamps to work the only testable lights are side lights, dipped beam, main beam, indicators(front/rear and side repeaters if applicable), brake lights, tail lights, rear facing offside high intensity light (fog light) and hazard lights

this is providing you want a full MOT you could have a daytime mot and then you require no lights but you can't drive at night or in ad weather


also date of manufacture comes into play as fogs hazards and side repeaters are not required on vehicles over a certain age (my series 3 doesn't require them)
 
makes me laugh how many people think loads of stuff gets tested on the mot.HAd a row on here once with some one who wanted his reversing lights fixed for the mot.HE said he failed on number plate lights so of course the reverseing lights were part of the test, strangely he couldnt show me where in the manual it says they are....
And the old chestnut, if its fitted its got to work.A fella at work was a "MOT tester" (he worked at kwick fit) said the spare forms part of the test.

Obviously some MOT testers try it on then, I got a fail for a broken fog lamp glass, it was more or less gone completely. I was told that if I removed both fog lights it would pass. This was on Ford XR3.:confused::confused::confused:

Yep they do.If ever you get a failure on a mot say "where does its say that in the book?"
A good MOT dude will go get the book point at it, a badun will look shifty. That sed ive once got a shagged metro through.It was running on 3 cylinders and the choke was stuck on so you couldnt stop the bastid!But it passed!Were ****in safe tho!
