Yes, saw that is Daft's post... and have seen them for sale - I assume it's just a reinforcent of the existing structure?

The LR soft bar is there to add a bit of extra protection to the front. It's very light but absorbs knocks well. It's also capable of taking LED bars. I think it looks nice on the front too. Sadly they are silly money, most of the time.

I have a spare grey one taken off my wife's 2005 3 door, she doesn't like them, but the fixings are awol. I couldn't remove it and retain the fixings, don't ask. The fixing kits seem hard to come by but if anyone wants this ...........

Indeed.
To fit the V6 into the engine bay. LR moved the rad forward by 50mm. This ment moving the bumper support/ crash bar forward 50mm and making the bumper shell stick out 50mm to accommodate it. So if you are looking for space to fit an intercooler. The V6 bumper will discreetly provide such a space ;)
