folks, hi,

right. 2001 K-Series 1.8i freelander, head gasket gone, quoted ridiculous amounts of money to fix it: me mum wants nothing to do with it, so i've volunteered to find ways to get a little more than £200 scrap value out of it.

first question is of course: does anyone want to buy a freelander with an engine that doesn't work (the rest of it does). no? ok, next question :)

second question: what's the most practical thing to do, here, if looking to fit a replacement engine? please - no "put a 1,000HP bugatti veyron engine in it, YEAH!" answers (unless they're accompanied by an offer of a donor 1,000HP bugatti veyron).

third question: i've seen an L-Series Diesel engine for £300 - what else would be needed to fit it? there's someone else who has been asking the same question on all the land rover sites - he actually got some answers here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/k-series-l-series-147251.html but there's no other feedback.

any other suggestions greatly appreciated. especially interested to hear from people with success stories about putting random and inexpensive diesel engines into this vehicle.

TBH its not worth the hassle of trying to fit another engine
If you want another freelander it would be cheaper to just buy a working l series freebie for 1500 quid

Sell as bits?

ird, gearbox, ird, props/vcu, alternator, wheels/tyres etc

Failing that have a look inside and see what needs fixed.

Burn it ??

*lol* yes i thought, hmm, i'll invent a bacteria which converts plastic back to oil, but apparently someone's already done that, so i'll have to make do with a celebratory and gleeful dance around a smoking wreck.

on second thoughts, £130 per tonne down at the local scrap metal merchants sounds like a step up from that, don't you think? :)

noo, we don't want another L-Series, we want a little bit more than £200 for _this_ H.O.J!
